Trowell’s visitors today were unbeaten league leaders Calverton MW, and the early spells showed why this was so. Although Trowell had the first shot at goal from jack in the first minute, Calverton attacked and their first goal came on 2 mins with a cross going unchallenged across the goal mouth and tapped in at the far post 0 –1. The second followed on 15mins with a ball played over the defence for the Calverton striker to volley home 0 – 2. After this goal Trowell shuffled their team and tried to regain control, with Danny and Mitch battling hard on a difficult surface. Benji and Connor C also pressed hard on the wings supplying some good balls but no one was there on the end of it.
The second half was an even affair with both teams pressing hard. Trowell produced their best spells when playing the ball along the ground rather than the high ball. Benji and Josh created several chances, but again the final ball or finish was always missing. Trowell battled to the end but couldn’t find the net and the game finished 0 – 2.
Great effort again after a shaky start, if the chances had been taken a draw at least was there for the taking.
