A new look Trowell side, with 4 new players, visited Netherfield for their first league game of the season.
Netherfield finished 6th in Div 1 last season so it was going to be a tough challenge. A strong wind blew from one end of the pitch to the other and spoiled a lot of the earlier attempts to play football by both teams. Trowell had good possession, and created several chances, but the first goal came on 28 mins from an unlikely source. Trowells new goalkeeper Luke Prettyjohn took a goal kick with the wind at his back , the ball bounced once and cleared the opposition keeper , to put Trowell 1 up. With the end of the half coming to a close, Netherfield pressed hard and as a result saw them equalise. Half Time 1 – 1.
The second half gave Netherfield the advantage of the wind and they had Trowell pinned in there own half for long spells. Netherfields second came following a deflection from a freekick, which saw the ball bounce in the box. Trowell failed to clear the bouncing ball and it was scrambled into the net , 2 – 1.
The third followed shortly after from a corner, which again could not be cleared, 3 –1 . From there on in Trowell battled hard and had several good attacks with Connor C, giving Netherfield some problems.
Luke Prettyjohn was called up time and time again and produced a string a top draw saves, diving full length to tip over the bar several times. The end of the game saw Trowell string some good football together, without really providing the final ball.
Final Score 3 – 1, difficult conditions and a tough side for Trowells first game . The side never really got their passing game together. But some spells of good football, which will surely get better as the new players gel with the older ones.
