This game had been billed as a ‘tasty encounter’ as only 1 point seperated each team.
Newly promoted Vernon started well and were a goal up inside 10 minutes after an injured Bradley Holmes of Trowell had momentarily cut the home side down to 10 men, this went un-noticed by the ref and play was allowed to continue, which led to the goal.
Not to be out-done by this, Trowell upped their game and were soon level from a corner kick delivered in by Sam Nyilasi, Tom Lock latched onto the ball and drilled it low under the keeper. New signings Matthew and Daniel Gadsby were introduced into the game and both players made some very importent tackles and clearances. Ben Jeffery again had a superb game with some delightful passes up to midfield and out wide to Ryan Malone. Sam Nyilasi scored a 2nd with a long range lob over the goalkeeper, and Matthew Green put Trowell 3-1 up just before the break.
The 2nd half began with Trowell’s visitors pushing forward and seeing a majority of possesion. Brave Goalkeeping by Ryan Liversidge kept Trowell in the lead. Once more both Adam Morley and Lewis Beaumont made very good and important tackles to keep Vernon out of Trowell’s goal area. But insistent pressure in the box saw Vernon pull a goal back.
However, the game finished 3-3 after more pressure from Vernon had them find the equaliser. Trowell carved out a couple of chances late on but had to settle for a draw.
