A tough game beckoned today as Trowell played host to current league champions Hucknall.
Straight from kick-off the game looked to be evenly matched as both teams enjoyed spells of attacking play in their opponents half. Defenders Charlie Gough, Jacob Browne, Sam Nyilasi and Ben Jeffery all worked very hard to keep a physical Hucknall team at bay. The early chances that were made by the visitors were cancelled out by Trowell’s goalkeeper Tom Lock whose positioning was key to making clearances out of his area. Unfortunately, Trowell went in at half-time 1 – 0 down, but were still very much in the game.
A slack start to the second half and Hucknall were to have a good attacking spell as Trowell gave them far too much time on the ball from midfield, thus putting strain on their defence. All too often Hucknall found themselves with plenty of space and with a couple of players in goal-scoring positions.
The score became 4 – 0 before Trowell reorganised and started to threaten Hucknall’s goal with intent. Corner kicks taken by Charlie Sanders were delivered into the box with pace and eventually Jacob Browne pulled a goal back as his shot went in under the keeper. More good play from the home side continued as they went looking for another goal and a possible comeback. Sam Nylasi was using his dribbling skills to the full as he managed to pass the ball around and up field to Matthew Green and Matthew Gadsby, and Charlie Gough used his stamina to surge through midfield to feed the ball to his forwards too. A late substitution for Trowell saw long absentee Lewis Beaumont make a welcome return to the team back in the heart of defence.
A very tough game that was very evenly matched, unfortunately the final score of 4 – 1 to Hucknall did not reflect the hard work that the Trowell boys had put into this match.
