Trowell Blue 8 Sherwood Reds 1

Newly promoted league champions Trowell were able to play with changes to the squad today as they were host to struggling side Sherwood who only managed to turn out with ten players.

Trowell made a steady start with some sharp and precise passes from the back line of Charlie Hosker and Jacob Browne, through midfielders Matthew Green, Charlie Sanders and Bradley Holmes to forwards Oliver Severn and Faron Langley. Plenty of chances were being created by Trowell but the visitors were not able to put the ball into the net, thanks mainly to Sherwood’s goal-keeper who kept his side in the game early on.

Matthew Green finally opened the scoring on fourteen minutes with a sweet shot that dipped under the bar. Two more goals followed before half-time by Oliver Severn, who was causing problems for Sherwood’s defence and Bradley Holmes who was enjoying playing down the right, finding plenty of space to run at.

Trowell perhaps became a little complacent after the break, and Sherwood who had up to this point been playing the long-ball game, got back into the match to make the score 3 – 1 from a ball thumped to their main forward who ran through Trowell’s defenders and fired a low shot under the body of Trowell’s goalie, Tom Lock. But almost immediately defender Adam Morley and again Oliver Severn scored to seemingly put the game out of Sherwood’s reach.

Trowell’s pressure in their opponents half was now persistent as they threatened Sherwood’s goal looking to kill the game off. Charlie Sanders delivered his corner kicks into the goal area with zest and soon enough another Adam Morley goal, a first goal in Trowell colours for defender Charlie Gough who was playing in midfield and a goal from James Aldridge gave Trowell their eighth goal of the game and made the final score of 1 – 8 look like a thumping win for Trowell, albeit against ten players.
