Trowell Blue 5 Wollaton Hall 1

A massive game was played today as Wollaton welcomed Trowell. Wollaton lying second in the league were hoping to gain on Trowell who currently sit top after maximum points from all games so far this season.

A tense start to the game from both sides as they struggled to keep hold of the ball. Trowell only managed to create a few chances in the first half with help from Faron Langley who after getting down the wing then struggled to deliver into the box, and from Oliver Severn and Bradley Holmes, Oliver Severn being man-marked by the biggest player on the pitch.

The second half of the game began with more zest, and Trowell were now looking more settled as they began to control the pace of the game. A battle down on the far right with forward Ryan Malone had him turn and skip past the Wollaton defender. he then struck the ball with such precision it had the goal-keeper beat as it lobbed over him and into the top corner. Oliver Sharratt put Trowell 2 – 0 up minutes later after a cross came in to Tom Lock who controlled the ball and left it for Oliver to shoot at goal.

Then came a warning for the visitors as Wollaton pushed forward and made there way into the Trowell goal area, and after a couple of scrappy attempts Wollaton pulled a goal back.

But Trowell were not about to lose the lead in this important game and showed their commitment by applying some skillful football. Charlie Hosker looked very comfortable in defence as he stroked the ball around, pushing play up field. Charlie Gough again had a good game, his long range throw-ins and strong defencive challenges didn’t go un-noticed. Tom Lock’s awareness of the game was excellent as he held the ball up in midfield and passed at the correct times, keeping his players on-side.

Oliver Severn got a goal for Trowell after the ball was fed into the box, he met the ball at speed and struck it so sweetly, it drilled straight and low past the keepers right.

By now Wollaton were visibly waning and were allowing Trowell to play the ball around them. Charlie Sanders made a well-timed sliding tackle to keep the possession for Trowell. His corner kick resulted in another goal for the visiting team scored by Faron Langley, and before the final whistle, Bradley Holmes scored Trowell’s fifth.

This was a very commanding performance by ALL of Trowell’s players, so much so, that every player that got on the pitch today earned themselves man of the match credits, and the boys now stretch their lead even more at the top of the table.
