Trowell’s last league game of their season saw them entertain Holy Spirit at Pit Lane. Although the league title was already Trowell’s, it was up to them to win and take their points total to 60 out of 60.
A somewhat nervy start as the home team played with care and patience, forcing play up field into Holy Spirit’s half and trying to pick out chances. Trowell’s leading scorer Oliver Severn got the first goal of the game with a strike that dipped in goal to the keepers left.
Trowell went in at the break 1 – 0 to the good and were possibly surprised as to how difficult their visitors had made it for them. The second half saw attack after attack from Trowell though as they grew stronger and more confident. A perfect corner taken by Charlie Sanders was met precisely by a well-timed run by Jacob Browne who managed to lose his marker in the process, and his resulting header went straight in the top corner of goal, a text-book set-piece. This second goal settled Trowell even more as they now knew the game was theirs and the particular achievement of twenty wins from twenty games set out by their manager at the start of the season had almost been met. Tom Lock playing in midfield came close with two long-range efforts, as did James Aldridge. The game was finally wrapped up in the final few minutes by Bradley Holmes after he dribbled the ball into Holy Spirit’s goal area and rounded the keeper to slot the ball home. 3 – 0 the final score.
The league title and Saturday Trophy mean the ‘double’ for Trowell, scoring 120 goals in the process and only conceding 17.
Trowell u12′s can now build on this and look forward to next season in a higher division.
