Cotgrave Colts 1 Trowell FC 3 AET

Trowell played Cotgrave today, a team doing well in a division above them and a good gauge as to how well the Trowell boys have been developing their football skills, in the quarter-finals of the cup.

Early possession from Trowell and another one of Charlie Gough’s trademark long throw-ins, which was met by Oliver Severn whos shot hit the post and Ryan Liversidge playing in midfield smashed the ball home from close range. Trowell went into the break a goal to the good, but should have been two or three up as they had bossed the game up to that point.

Cotgrave levelled early in the second half after a couple of defensive errors gifted them the chance. Ryan Liversidge missed a glorious chance late on, but his effort struck the post.

So, extra-time came, and once more Trowell were far more confident and the better team, dictating the pace and heaping pressure on Cotgrave. An exceptional run by Oliver Severn down the left wing allowed him to strike the ball from a tight angle high past the keeper. Every Trowell player was on form today, from goal-keeping and good distribution by Tom Lock, through defenders Charlie Hosker, Charlie Gough, Ben Jeffery, Matthew Maplestone and Adam Morley, midfielders Ryan Liversidge, Matthew Green, Oliver Sharratt, and Bradley Holmes, James Aldridge and Oliver Severn all pushing the play forward. The threat of a penalty shoot-out vanished when once again, a pass from midfield had Oliver Severn make a fantastic run with the ball from his own half, skipped past two Cotgrave midfielders and stretch his legs to out-pace a defender and cooly drill the ball past the keeper, and secure a place in the semi-finals of the cup.

A great display by Trowell who are still in the running for a cup and league double this season.
