Trowell’s final Sunday league game was a visit to Aslockton. Looking to get revenge on a 1-0 loss from earlier in the season and end on a run of wins, Trowell seemed to be up for it. Dan Harper was in fine form as he took Trowell to a 2 goal lead, first a close range effort from a cross into the box delivered by Oliver Severn and his second a half volley curling away from the keeper into the top corner.

If Trowell thought that they had done their job by half-time then they were mistaken. Aslockton came back at them with shots that hit the crossbar and the post and they eventually pulled a goal back. But the nerves of the visitors were settled when once again Severn became provider with a cross and Matthew Green who had been causing the defence problems all game slid in with a deft chip over the keeper. Final score, 3-1 to Trowell.

Ball possession in Trowell’s opponents half — 1st half 51%

2nd half 30%

overall 41%

Attendance — 26

The trophy topped off a fantastic weekend and was nothing less than our boys deserved after playing superbly well and showing terrific team spirit throughout the weekend. Thanks to everyone for a great weekend and well done!!

Trowell Visitors today were West Bridgford Falcons, the pitch was very over grown in areas making the chance of any good football being played difficult. Trowell created several chances early on. Danny hitting the crossbar from a corner, Jordan and Nakeel linking well again and Matt also having his shot saved by the keeper. But Trowell never really got out of first gear and made things difficult for themselves by not closing down the away teams midfield when in possesion. This lack of effort lead to West Bridgford scoring on 25mins, A pass was played up to their striker , who turned and got of his shot into the bottom corner 0 – 1 .

The second half continued with Trowell not producing anything like their normal football. Luke produced a fine save one on one against their striker to keep the defecit to one goal . In the last 20 mins of the game Trowell suddenly woke up and produced several chances , which either hit the wood work or well saved by the Falcons Keeper. Who seemed to have 9 lives today , one shot from Josh hit the post came back out , hit him and still didn’t end up in the net. Trowell finally equalised with 13 mins left on the clock following plenty of missed chances. From a corner Matt headed the ball into the net to make it 1 -1 . The end of the game was drawing near and Trowell laid seige to the Falcons goal , but again the Keeper kept the ball out of the net. Until with two minutes left, another corner saw Nakeel flick on for Josh to head home from close range 2- 1 .

Trowell’s final ‘saturday’ game of the season saw them welcome neighbours Toton to Pit Lane.

Trowell went with a 3-pronged attack with Kristian Jakobsen up front and Oliver Severn and Andrew Brown either side. The 1st half was dominated by the home side as some lovely football was played from midfield, up. Jacobsen soon had Trowell in the lead with 2 goals and a 3rd by Severn who lobbed the keeper ensured that they were in command. Jacobsen completed his 1st half hat-trick, but not before Toton pulled a goal back. The 2nd half was totally different though as Trowell (who were probably exhausted after a weekends football tournament) switched off and let Toton right back in the game with a 2nd goal. The 2 goal cushion never seemed enough for Trowell and sure enough, Toton came back to 4-3, finding the long ball over a high defence line an easy option. Man of the match Matthew Green created chances and kept Toton’s goalkeeper busy, but it was Bradley Holmes who eased Trowell’s nerves as he scored from close range. Final score 5-3 to Trowell.

Trowell’s penultimate game of the season was a visit to 3rd place Dunkirk.

From the off, the physical presence of the home team and their current league form had them comfortable favourites to convincingly win. Trowell kicked into a strong wind in the 1st half and had to endure relentless pressure from Dunkirk. 1 chance created by Trowell allowed Kristien Jakobsen to receive the ball at the far post, only to have it scrambled from his feet for a corner. Going into halftime 0-0 was itself an achievement.

Trowell now had 35 minutes to take full advantage of the weather conditions. More chances came from a free-kick with perfect delivery from Charlie Sanders and a Jakobsen lob that hit the crossbar. Dunkirk then replied with an effort that bumbled its way onto Trowell’s goalpost and moments later with the only goal of the game after some scrappy defending. Bradley Holmes kept Trowell in the game when he headed a shot off the goal line, and in the final minute of the game Matthew Green managed to get himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper only to shoot wide.

Final score, 1-0 to Dunkirk.

Trowell entertained Burton Joyce this time with a full team, but were soon under pressure. Luke was forced into a fine near post save from a flicked on header. After the early scare Trowell settled into their passing game, which at times wasn’t helped with sections of the field covered in long grass.

Trowells first came on 15mins, Matt producing a fine solo effort beating two defenders before shooting past the keeper 1 –0. Nakeel scored Trowells second on 25 mins, taking the ball forward; he linked up with Jordan who returned the pass for Nakeel to shot into the bottom corner 2 – 0. The third on 30 mins came from a Nakeel free kick, Tom heading the ball in the area, which fell to Connor G to score from close range 3 – 0. Burton Joyce replied soon after the restart with a cross into the box being put away without any challenge 3 – 1. Luke produced a good save towards the end of the first half as Trowell took their foot off the gas,

The second half saw Trowell produced several chances within the first 15 mins, none of which could be converted. The rest of the half saw Burton Joyce take more control of the game, they reduced the lead with a poorly defended cross on 75 mins converted to make it 3 – 2. Trowell managed to ease the pressure on themselves by scoring a fourth on 85mins, a great move involving Matt, Westy and finally Jordan , who’s left foot shot beat the keeper to make it 4 – 2. Burton Joyce didn’t give up the game, forcing Luke into a good double save to finish the game

The first half saw Trowell playing into a strong wind, and start the better of the two teams. Trowell opened their account within 2 mins. The ball was played up to Tom who held the ball up before releasing it to Matt, his shot beat the keeper into the bottom corner of the net 0 – 1. Trowell continued to play the better of the football, Connor G forcing the keeper into a good save. The lead was doubled on 25 mins, with Matt producing a fine solo effort to beat the keeper again 0 – 2.

The first half finished with Trowell in total control.

Trowell had the wind at their backs for the second half and should have made the football easier. But both teams cancelled each other out. The wind spoiling both teams chances to play any sort of good football. Trowell’s only scare coming when Connor C passed back to Luke, not seeing the forward in between them, Luke managed to just clear the ball in time….

Trowell were strongly represented in the 2.012k run with players and family members from the U13′s and U11′s teams. The event was well organised and from the response everybody enjoyed themselves. Photos and times can be found on www.stuweb.co.uk, A special mention to Ben Jeffery who was our first one to finish and finishing second overall closely followed by Jacob Browne.

This game was a must win for Trowell who needed the points to secure their top league status. They had to soak up lots of pressure in the 1st half as West Bridgford found lots of space down on the right wing and had numerous chances to cause trouble in Trowell’s box. But thanks to a well timed through ball to Oliver Severn up front, he managed to muscle off 2 defenders and continue to battle to strike an effort beating the keeper. Plenty of good performances within the team followed, most noticeably in midfield where Matthew Green, Dan Harper, Brad Wilde, Charlie Sanders and Brad Holmes all managed to stave off numerous challenges and help keep Trowell in possession. The 2nd half was a lot more one sided and West Bridgford rarely had the ball in play in Trowells half. Oliver Severn once again managed to score and seal the win for Trowell. A 2-0 win for Trowell and a clean sheet.

Trowells ball possession in opponents half 1st half — 40%

2nd half — 70%

Trowell visited Burton Joyce with a 10 man squad and the omens didn’t look good after just 5 mins , the striker was allowed to turn and shoot in the box, to put the home team 1-0 up. From there on in Trowell played the much better football and at times there passing and movement, made it look like the opposition had a man less, the team’s effort and work rate could not be criticised at all. Creating the chances was not proving a problem, the season long problem of converting them into goals was. The goalkeeper, cross bar and players on the line all stopping several well created chances in the first half.

Half time 1-0

The second half started as the first, Burton Joyce goal kick was headed straight into the opposition striker’s path, who converted from close range 2 – 0 . Trowell pulled up there socks and again played some great football, and were given an opportunity to pull one back, when they were awarded a penalty, but the keeper pulled of a good save to keep it 2 – 0. Trowell finally converted a chance on 75mins, Danny putting the ball into the net after a goalmouth scramble from a corner 2 – 1. But the home team scored quickly after the restart, with a carbon copy of the second goal 3 –1. Trowell still continued creating plenty of chances, Nakeel hitting the cross bar being one of many. The game finished with a own goal from a corner, which about summed up the day 4 –1.

A great team effort with 10 men, and for a lot of the game it was hard to see which team was short of a player. But failure to convert the chances gave the home team the points.

Mann of the Match : The Team
